JERRY SANDUSKY, GAY ACTIVISTS, AND “CONSENSUAL” PEDERASTY

Every gay and straight person I know deplores the terribly abusive acts of convicted pederast Jerry Sandusky, since he used his position of power to sexually abuse boys and young teenagers. But would gay activists condemn Sandusky if the acts had somehow been consensual?

Consider the example of Harvey Milk, the pioneer gay politician who is celebrated in many schools on Harvey Milk Day and who was memorialized in the Academy Award winning film “Milk.”

According to the acclaimed gay journalist Randy Shilts, at age 11, Milk began attending performances of the New York Metropolitan Opera where he met with “wandering hands” and soon was engaged in “brief trysts [with grown men] after the performances.” While still in junior high, he “dove headfirst into the newly discovered subculture,” and by the age of 14, Milk was “leading an active homosexual life.”

Were the men who were sexually involved with Harvey Milk any better than Jerry Sandusky? And can an 11-year-old give truly informed consent to such acts?

As Milk grew older, the pattern reversed itself to the point that, at age 33, Milk hooked up with a 16-year-old named Jack McKinley, one of a number of younger men with whom he was intimate. Does this not tarnish his legacy?

The school lessons supplied by GLSEN (which in practice stands for the Gay and Lesbian Sexual Education Network) contain tools like “North American History Game Cards,” where children learn that famous Americans like Allen Ginsberg and Walt Whitman were gay. What the children don’t learn is that if Whitman was, in fact, a homosexual, he was also a pederast while Ginsberg was a defender of NAMBLA, the notorious North American Man Boy Love Association, of which he infamously said, “Attacks on NAMBLA stink of politics, witchhunting for profit, humorlessness, vanity, anger and ignorance. . . . I’m a member of NAMBLA because I love boys too — everybody does, who has a little humanity.”

An even more celebrated gay icon, Harry Hay, considered to be the founder of America’s gay liberation movement, was also a friend of NAMBLA. When a gay pride parade in Los Angeles banned NAMBLA from participating, Hay decided to march with a sign that said, “NAMBLA walks with me.”

From 2001-2006, Yale University’s LGBT program was greatly helped by the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies, named after the famous gay activist and author. In a 2004 speech in New York City, he spoke of a “sweet young boy who didn’t know anything and was in awe of me. I was the first man who f----d him. I think I murdered him [meaning, by infecting him with AIDS].” Where is the gay outcry over this?

During a radio interview last year on the Rick Amato Show, Jimmy LaSalvia of GOProud stated, “I happen to think that a good school teacher, when they’re teaching literature, would mention that Oscar Wilde, when they’re teaching his work, would mention that Oscar Wilde was locked in an asylum because he was gay.” Would they also mention that he was a boy lover and that he wrote about his passionate sexual encounters with young teens no older than some of the boys molested by Sandusky?

As noted by Jim Kepner, formerly curator of the International Gay and Lesbian Archives in Los Angeles, “If we reject the boylovers in our midst today we’d better stop waving the banner of the Ancient Greeks, of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Oscar Wilde, Walt Whitman, [and others]. We’d better stop claiming them as part of our heritage unless we are broadening our concept of what it means to be gay today.” (There is, of course, dispute about the sexual orientation of some of the men on this list, but if, in fact, they were homosexuals, they were also pederasts.)

And where is the world condemnation of David Norris, the Irish gay activist, Senator, and presidential hopeful? While stating that he abhors child abuse and that offenders should be fully prosecuted by the law, he has also declared, “I don’t believe in an age of consent.” Norris told the magazine Magill, “There’s a lot of nonsense about pedophilia. . . . I think there is a complete and utter hysteria about this subject.” He insisted that children were capable of giving informed consent to sex, saying, “The law should take into account consent rather than age.”

Lifesite News also reports that in a September 2011 letter in which he clarified his views, Norris confirmed his support for consensual pederasty, “saying that from his own experience as a young gay man in Dublin, he would have preferred to have engaged in such a relationship as his ‘introduction to sexuality.’”

This is reminiscent of a statement made by Larry Kramer and proudly quoted by NAMBLA: “In those cases where children do have sex with their homosexual elders . . . I submit that often, very often, the child desires the activity, and perhaps even solicits it, either because of a natural curiosity . . . or because he or she is homosexual and innately knows it.” He even claimed that, “. . . unlike girls or women forced into rape or traumatized, most gay men have warm memories of their earliest and early sexual encounters; when we share these stories with each other, they are invariably positive ones.”

Tell that to the victims of Jerry Sandusky.

  1. Wow, Dr. Brown! What a bright light shown on the horrible truth of sexual immorality. Thank you for being so brave and being so honest. I'm sure that the "positive" encounters these boys have is because from their perspective...older men have to reallt woo them into thinking this is "okay" and "good"..as a rape victim myself, women usually don't get this approach. Usually it's with the use of drugs, as was my experience, or their forced in a back room or alley because it's done quick by a perpetrator. Usually these boys are being seduced by someone of "trust" and over a lengthy time. So sad how Satan uses his biggest tool~ LIES! God bless your ministry and I hope people will stop being so dang politically correct and see the damage being done to children deserving of a normal progression into adulthood as well as entering into a sexual life as GOD created! Within a healthy heterosexual committed marriage :)

  2. Kramer said, "most gay men have warm memories" of their first gay sexual encounter. While his words are hardly a scientifically proven observation proving that at least 51% of these men had a positive experience, even if it is true, it means the rest of these men had a negative memory, meaning their sex was most likely non-consentual. In other words, they were raped.

Kramer's words admit three things: 1) he knew that some men were raped as children, 2) he did nothing about it, and 3) he glossed over the whole matter by lumping it as part of an overall positive assessment of man/boy sexual encounters.

Several people associated with the Sandusky case are being indicted for failure to act when they knew a sex crime had taken place, and Joe Paterno got fired because of it. Kramer should have been prosecuted for his failure to act, and so should everyone who knows boys are being violated but do not contact the police.

    1. With all due respect I think equating "most gay men have warm memories" with knowledge of persons being raped is a bit of a logical stretch. Its not unreasonable that these persons who have less than warm memories were just unsatisfied or disappointed, not raped.

  3. This is heartbreaking! :/. Lets not forget the high rate of suicide involved with homosexuals. We experienced this in our family. Its a torturous torment that doesnt go away.Only Jesus can heal this type of wound. We must remember to pray for these precious souls for healing/deliverance.

  4. Homosexuality is a scourge and the more the behavior is accepted by society the more widespread the hedonism will become. Conversely I see another danger as well, that is that those who ignore (not cover up) lawbreakers should themselves be charged with criminal action. Both actions speak to an underpinning problem and that is a lack of moral fiber. When God is chased from society Godlessness will fill the void.

  5. Yes. child and teenage seduction and/or rape is very prevalent in both the gay and heterosexual communities. But the "gay community" is DEEPLY addicted to lust. Sandusky is a primary example of this. So also the case of Harvey Milk. Your points are entirely well taken. We must pray all the more that these people be set free and saved.

  7. Thank you Dr. Brown for all you do in the name of God. This article is true and so true that it we be overlooked and put more labels upon you and other truly God-fearing people. The shameless part of it all is the fact that it is another "sensitive issue" and 75% of "so-called" Christian America will not stand up and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!! They will let their Liberal friends dictate what they should think and DO, rather than going to the Word of God and see what He says.
I love you and everyone out there, and I know Jesus is the way, IF he can save a sinner like me (which I was the WORST)
I know he can save EVERYONE if they just DECIDE in THEIR HEARTS to repent and beg forgiveness and turn from their sinful nature and never look back. I know the Devil is real also and he will be there every step of the way to tempt people back to him. I pray that people seek the WILL of God and to open their heart to Our Lord Jesus Christ and seek his love. It is a wonderful love. Amen

  9. In On the Jews and Their Lies, Martin Luther said that the Jews were a base, whoring people; that they are full of the devil's feces...which they wallow in like swine; that the synagogue was a defiled bride, and incorrigible whore, and an evil slut. He said that the synagogues should be set afire, prayer books burned, Jewish homes razed, and their money confiscated. Yet daily we uplift Luther as a hero of the faith....and in someways, rightfully so.

For centuries the Church has brought atrocities to the world, yet we still push forward in the faith. We chew up the meat and spit out the bones. It's right that the above-mentioned homosexual leaders are called out for their pedophilia. People need to know this. However, they are not a representation of the homosexual community. I have dozens of gay friends, and not one of them has any inclination toward pedophilia. They find it disgusting, and hate that these otherwise progressives of their culture were a part of it.

The Bible itself is full of a culture in which women were married off (actually, sold off as property) at a young age to older men. Other times, during raids of cities, all young virgins were carried away (while everyone else, to include women who were not virgins - even married women - were killed). More recently, my own grandmother married my grandfather at 15. He was 22. I bet that it's somewhat the same (or younger in many cases) for your grandparents or great grandparents. Do I think that 14/15 is too young to get married? Yep. Do I agree with that age gap today being called pedophilia? Yep. Do I hate what Sandusky (a heterosexual pedophile, not a homosexual) did? Yep. Do I hate what Wilde and Milk (homosexuals and pedophiles, two classifications that are not related) did? Yep.

I honestly don't care what you believe about homosexuality from a moral standpoint, and I applaud the effort to hold the homosexual community to an objective standard of recognizing the wolves in their history, but it's only arrogance if you fail to recognize that wolves exist in your history as well and not attack them with the same vehemence with which you do the homosexual community.

    1. Anonymous, I myself have often quoted (and written about) Luther's horrific words, and I have written far more critiquing the church than I have written concerning gay activism. That being said, your analogy breaks down: The true message that Luther had was wonderful and life transforming; when he departed from it, he hurt and even destroyed many lives. As for homosexuality itself -- I'm not talking about the people themselves, who can be as nice and friendly and hardworking and neighborly as anybody -- it is contrary to God's design for humanity and not in anyone's best interest. In other words, if every gay person could snap their fingers and suddenly be straight, it would be wonderful. And when gay activists seek to change our laws, seek to reeducate our children, and seek to restrict our freedoms of conscience, faith, and speech, we must stand against them. Thanks for your post!

  10. Dr. Brown,
    I am speechless, wao…
I think about my boys (11 and 6 years of age), wao, I mean, I think about those who have been harm in such a way. I mean, this is cruel. We cannot change the past, but we can change our future. We have to find a better way to protect our children from all of this mess. I just pray that Our God, The Creator of the Heavens and the Earth change our ways, open the eyes of those that are blinded by Satan and his minions.
May The Lord Our God protect our family, Oh Lord cover your children with the Precious Blood of Jesus Our Lord and Savior…

  11. As an openly gay man for 55 of my 75 years, I have seen homophobes and heterophobes on both sides of the issues. I knew Harvey Milk as a friend. Many young kids who came to San Francisco were thrown out of their homes by their parents because they had homosexual tendencies and friends. I met some young kids who tried to seek out help from churches, only to be turned away, too. Back in 1953 I quit high school because I had "those" tendencies and it was taboo at home, school and the work place. Thankfully, I moved to San Francisco in 1960 from Chicago and got involved in the early gay rights movement. I HAVE FOUND TOO MANY RELIGIOUS LEADERS ARE HYPOCRITES, saying one thing and doing another.

Just recently, I was inducted in the Chicago Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for my contributions in the GLBT community. The same city that I left has become gay friendly. We built a new Community Center that helps teens find work and gives shelter.
Many Chicago high schools have Gay/ Straight Alliance after school programs. The CMSA sports program has leagues for people of all ages. Being gay is more then just sex. It is who we are... we do not try to convert anyone to think like us, only to understand we are your relatives, neighbors and friends. Understanding the now is more important then religions that are at war with other religions, and those who do not believe in religion like they do.

    1. Jerry,

Thanks for sharing your story here, and I'm truly sorry that you know people who were turned away by churches when they wanted help. I'm also sorry you had to experience some of the things you did in your own life. And yes, there are hypocrites everywhere, including in religious circles, and over the years, I have written more about that than about gay activism.

I do, however, strongly differ with some things you wrote in your post. You wrote: "Being gay is more then just sex. It is who we are." Yes, I understand that, but there is an especially strong sexual fixation that has also been a large part of the LGBT movement, as seen in the "pride" parades. What other "civil rights" movement has been marked by such sexual displays? (That's just one example, of course.) More importantly, you wrote, "we do not try to convert anyone to think like us, only to understand we are your relatives, neighbors and friends." Actually, I see an overt attempt to change people's thinking on this front day and night, from the schools to Hollywood. Gay activists want to celebrate homosexuality, to embrace same-sex "marriage," to rewrite the Bible, etc. That's why I have gotten involved in this issue, because gay activism came knocking at the door of my community -- and at almost every door in America.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, OK? I'm not trying to win a debate here; simply to see if you can acknowledge what I'm writing here to be true on any level.

Lastly, because God called me to confront gay activism, He also broke my heart with a deep love for the LGBT community, so I write these words with love, not anger.
